What is the scheme?
The Punjab government's student electric bike scheme offers electric bikes to students on instalments, with the government covering part of the cost. Phase II opened in September 2026. Media reports quoted the Transport Secretary as saying roughly 432,000 students registered within two days of the portal opening, and that about 100,000 bikes are available in this phase.

Check the numbers yourself
The reported cost is Rs 199,000, of which the government covers Rs 90,000, leaving Rs 109,000 for the student to repay over 36 months. Rs 109,000 divided by 36 is Rs 3,027.78, which rounds to the Rs 3,028 instalment: this confirms that no markup is charged to the student. A normal loan of Rs 109,000 at 15% for three years would cost about Rs 3,780 a month, which you can test with the loan EMI calculator.
Running costs of an electric bike
A bike with a 72 V, 30 Ah battery stores roughly 2.2 kWh, so a full charge costs about 2.2 units. At Rs 40 per unit, that is under Rs 100 a charge, much cheaper than petrol. Estimate your own charging cost with the electricity bill calculator. Battery specifications are as listed by some sources and may differ in the final bikes.
Before you apply
- Check that you have, or can quickly get, a motorcycle licence or learner permit.
- Prepare the guarantor's CNIC and mobile number.
- Keep your student ID or institution certificate handy.
- Check your age on the cut-off date with the age calculator.
